The little boat.

3-10

For getting into cold water. No holding, just a long blow out.

This has nothing to do with the FIVE MOVES process. People just keep asking us how to breathe properly in the water. It is simply a service for anyone who loves cold bathing.

  1. Deep in: three seconds.
  2. Long out: ten seconds. Count one, two, three, four.
  3. No pause in between. Never hold your breath.
  4. Picture blowing a paper boat across the surface of the water.

Before you go in.

This friendly gesture does not replace the doctor you trust or, above all, your common sense.

This technique does not protect you from cold shock, hypothermia, heart problems or drowning. You go in at your own risk. FIVE MOVES gives no guarantee and accepts no liability.

Three rules.

  1. Use your common sense. It is free and fits in any bikini or swimsuit.
  2. Listen to your body.It was right long before this website.
  3. Talk to experienced cold bathers and a doctor. Not to the little boat. It is made of paper.

Wim Hof made ice bathing famous.

But honestly: in cold water, something simpler counts. The lifeboat crews at the RNLI advise getting your breath under control until the cold shock passes. The little boat is our picture for that, not a study.

How do you breathe in cold water?

Three seconds deep in, ten seconds out, with no pause and no holding. You blow out long, as if you were pushing a paper boat across the surface of the water. Eight breaths take 104 seconds.

How this started.

In 2022, Andy and Martin met at the bakery and agreed: as soon as the Rhine drops below 15 degrees, we go cold bathing together on Sundays.

The group has grown steadily ever since. By now, Sunday morning has become an absolute ritual.

  • The cold bathing group on the Rhine beach at Rheinfelden
