What is an emotional blockage?

Definition, body location, how it dissolves. Body-based. Without retraumatisation. Grounded in Polyvagal Theory, Memory Reconsolidation and Embodied Cognition.

An emotional blockage is a physically locatable feeling that blocks access to a desired state. It manifests as pressure, tightness, heat, numbness or heaviness at a specific address in the body, often in the belly, chest, throat or jaw. The blockage is not a thought that can be reasoned away, but a response of the autonomic nervous system.

In the FIVE MOVES method, the blockage is not analysed but navigated. Two coordinates make it solvable: the desired feeling in the heart space as lighthouse, and the blockage location in the body as target. Through a precise sequence of five moves (SENSE, CRACK, ALLOW, ACTIVATE, FREE) the desired feeling is brought to the blockage location and dissolves the blockage where it sits.

Scientific basis: Polyvagal Theory (Porges), Memory Reconsolidation (Nader), Embodied Cognition (Niedenthal).

Where does a blockage sit in the body?

Every blockage has a concrete physical address. Common locations are belly, chest, throat, jaw, shoulders and lower back.

The belly often signals anxiety and worry. The chest carries grief and pressure. The throat holds unspoken truth or loss of voice. The jaw holds back anger. The shoulders carry responsibility. The lower back carries existential fear.

The body knows the location. In FIVE MOVES the trainer asks the body, not the mind. The question is: where do you feel it right now? Not: why do you have it?

How is an emotional blockage different from a physical symptom?

A physical symptom has a medical cause and is clinically assessed. An emotional blockage is a nervous system response to an unresolved state and shows up as a sensation without medical findings. Both can occur simultaneously. FIVE MOVES works exclusively with the emotional blockage and does not replace medical treatment.

Why does a blockage not dissolve through understanding?

Blockages are stored in the autonomic nervous system, not in rational thought.

Stephen Porges Polyvagal Theory shows: safety and change happen on the physical level, not through insight. Bruce Eckers Memory Reconsolidation demonstrates that an emotional memory can only be transformed when it is somatically activated. Pure understanding does not change the blockage.

How does FIVE MOVES dissolve a blockage?

FIVE MOVES navigates the blockage with two coordinates: the desired feeling in the heart space as lighthouse, the blockage location in the body as target.

Through a precise sequence of five moves, the desired feeling is brought to the blockage location and dissolves it where it sits:

  1. SENSEFind the location of the blockage in the body.
  2. CRACKSend the desired feeling to the blockage.
  3. ALLOWTriple yes from body, feeling and mind.
  4. ACTIVATEBreathwork that dissolves the blockage.
  5. FREEAnchor the new identity, 40 days of app anchoring.

A Starting Session lasts 90 minutes. Then 40 days of app anchoring follow, twice 90 seconds per day, morning and evening.

What is a desired feeling?

A desired feeling is a physically perceivable target state, always located in the heart space.

It is not a thought and not a negation like "no more anxiety". It is a positive state like calm, clarity, joy or courage, perceived in the chest area as warmth, expansion or humming. The desired feeling is the lighthouse that orients the nervous system toward the dissolution of the blockage.

Is FIVE MOVES therapy?

No. FIVE MOVES is not therapy, not coaching and not esoteric. It is a body-based method for dissolving emotional and mental blockages in a Starting Session plus 40 days of app-guided anchoring. For diagnosed psychological conditions, therapeutic treatment is indicated. FIVE MOVES works complementarily, not as a replacement.

Which themes does FIVE MOVES work with?

Exam anxiety, impostor syndrome, stage fright, attachment anxiety, people-pleasing, procrastination, performance blocks, self-worth issues, fears and physical blockages.

The prerequisite is that the person has access to their own body and the blockage is not acutely traumatic. For acute trauma, stabilising therapy is recommended first.

Why without retraumatisation?

FIVE MOVES does not navigate into the past. The trainer does not ask where the blockage comes from, only where it sits.

This eliminates the risk of reactivating a traumatic memory without being able to process it. The desired feeling is established first, the body remains in the ventral vagal state (safety), and the dissolution happens here and now.

Why 40 days?

Phillippa Lallys UCL study shows: habits take an average of 66 days to anchor. Wolfgang Klimeschs theta wave research demonstrates: the subconscious is most accessible directly after waking and before falling asleep. FIVE MOVES uses these 40 days with twice 90 seconds of app anchoring per day to neurologically anchor the new identity.
